Job Title: Welding Specialist Engineer

Job Description:

- To execute Welding Engineering and construction activities, and to provide relevant expertise to the Project Team through all phases of the Project

- from design, procurement, construction, commissioning and start-up up to hand-over and initial operations.

- To ensure the Welding is executed to specified Shell/SPDC and International standards and specifications.

- To manage all Engineering and construction aspects of the Welding operations during the implementation phase, with the objective to complete the work in accordance with the Project Development Plan, and with all appropriate norms and standards.

In the execution of these activities, the roles cover key aspects of the EP Business model: 

- Conduct Feasibility Studies

- Make Facility Design Concepts

- Estimate Facility Capital Expenditure

- Make Basis for Design

- Manage Projects/Project Execution Planning & Contracting & Procurement

- Construct Facilities

- Commission Facilities

- Prepare As-Built Drawings

- Prepare Facilities for Handover

- Maintain surface facilities

- Decommission/Abandon Facilities

Job Duties:

• Provide technical expertise, procedures, and technical review and support capabilities in the area of DSS piping, pipeline welding and cladding to the Project Teams.

• To participate in the execution of the EPCC (Engineer, Procure, Construct and Commission) contract for the Project; This includes responsibility for the provision of welding engineering input, resource and support towards the completion.

• Provide technical support, and technical review capabilities in the area of facilities and welding engineering to further check that the Projects’ designs conform to SPDC facility standard designs and the SPDC standard construction specifications.

• To provide/co-ordinate responses to Contractors’ technical queries during the project detail design phase;

• To participate in project engineering activities related to the project’s multidisciplinary nature, including discipline and inter-discipline review of design deliverables, participation in HAZOPS and design reviews; and monitor follow-up of recommendations;

• To participate in the Projects’ interfaces with other projects and facilities, and liaise with Operations representatives to ensure their requirements are taken into account during project execution;

•  To make inputs into the materials procurement aspects of the EPCC contract from ex-works to delivery at site. To ensure adequate monitoring/tracking of materials/equipment usage and reconciliation during and after project execution;

• To carry out all piping/cladding/welding activities associated with the construction and pre-commissioning of the facilities (e.g. preparation of construction drawing/documents, site construction and installation, hook-up, pre-start up audits, as-built drawings);

• To manage all aspects of CASHES (Community Affairs, Health, Environment and Security) and quality issues on the project, in particular during the construction phase; with particular emphasis on potential Community Disturbances;

• To make inputs into submissions for piping/welding specification/design change controls

• To manage the construction risks and develop the requisite strategies to minimise these risks;

• To manage the QA/QC process during the construction phase, and demonstrate Technical Integrity of the facilities so as to meet the requirements of the ISO 14001 system during the Operations phase;

• In interface with Asset teams, ensure that specified piping/welding/cladding philosophies and requirements take into account commissioning, start-up, HSE and Operational requirements of the facilities and align with the Operations Philosophy.

• Prepare monthly Project Progress Reports for Senior Management.

• Responsible for formulation and testing of weld procedures.

- Monitoring of existing weld procedures.

-Train welders and welding inspectors on weld failure analysis and eliminating weld defect problems

Other role responsibilities include:

• Participate in concept selection of new integrated project oil & gas surface facilities through option evaluation, simulations, optimisations, and QCs on engineering work from design consultants. This includes specification of equipment and definition of system operating envelopes.

• Take part in Discipline activities in the SIEP Technical and Operational Excellence Forums and Surface Global Networks to exchange knowledge, share best practice and improve global health of the discipline within EP.

• Develop own skills and competence in line with changing business needs and technical advances in discipline. Evaluate and capture new knowledge and learning.

• Participate in SPDC mentoring scheme for young graduates.

Qualifications:   • Graduate in an Engineering Discipline (Mechanical/Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent).

• Experience should be a minimum of 8 – 15 years in weldingengineering design and construction.

• Experience in piping/pipeline engineering and in EPCC Contract management.

• Extensive Project management experience and skills.

• Excellent inter-personal and leadership skills with good communications skills (i.e. report writing and presentation) are essential.

• Team player, acting as a champion to break new grounds, self-motivated, starter.

• Be able to constantly travel to all project locations.

- Knowledge in ASME, AWS, ISO, API codes

- Certified Welding Engineer is desirable
